Then join us this March and allow our qualified, experienced and patient instructors teach you the basic principles of Yoga in a non-competitive environment.  This course is for those who have had little or no yoga experience. There is absolutely no pressure to perform and you can feel at ease knowing that everyone is in the same situation as you. In addition, we have limited the number of participants to a maximum of 8 per retreat.  There will be plenty of individual attention, and ample time to ask questions. With the vibe relaxed and fun, we hope you will return home inspired, motivated and eager to dive deeper into the oldest system of total well-being in the world  - YOGA!

Who is the retreat for? 

This retreat is for women and men (age 16 or above) who are either completely new to yoga, or have just started out. Although the retreat will be conducted in English, we have Portuguese and French speakers on our team to assist.

How might I benefit from the retreat?
During the retreat, Susanne and Melissa will teach basic yoga postures, as well as simple breathing and meditation techniques which have been proven to contribute towards a healthy body and mind.  There will be ample opportunity to practice, ask questions and experience first hand the many physical, mental and spiritual benefits of yoga.  In addition, you will be eating healthy food which will help reboot your system and energise your entire body.  There will plenty of time to rest, relax, and spend time in nature so if your body and mind are feeling sluggish or overloaded, this is the retreat for you. It is our intention to send you home feeling good, inspired and motivated to integrate what you have learned into your daily routine.   Both Susanne and Melissa are long term practitioners and teachers of yoga, and they are dedicated to help others enjoy a healthy, happy and fulfilling life. 

With Whom?

Canadian born Melissa spent her formative years in London, England later working for the music pioneer, HMV.  In her twenties, she moved to Hong Kong to further her corporate career, however, she soon realised that she was seeking a more meaningful purpose in life. With this intention in mind, she focused on Yoga as a means of physical, mental and spiritual evolution. As Melissa’s connection deepened, so did her desire to share the gift of yoga with others. Melissa studied in India, Hong Kong and Thailand. She is an experienced yoga teacher, E-RYT 500 and has taught in China, Thailand, Greece and Portugal over the last 13 years. Melissa has developed a teaching style that has been described as passionate, sincere and inspirational.  

Now, nearly 20 years after her Yoga adventure began, Melissa has the pleasure to welcome you to her own Yoga retreat in the heart of the Portuguese countryside where she lives with her family.  Melissa teaches yoga and meditation classes at Antara, as well as personal programs, retreats, massage therapy, Reiki treatments and attunments.

Susanne is a life-lover, soul-seeker, barefoot-walker, mother of twins.

She has been practising yoga for over 20 years and is a certified teacher since 2007 . Always continuing to study different aspects and forms of yoga, she now teaches traditional hatha yoga, the more dynamic vinyasa yoga, as well as the inward journey of yin yoga.

She feels blessed to share her joy for both the physical and spiritual aspects of yoga practice in her classes. Using awareness of the breath as the guide in all practices, she encourages you to forget about striking the perfect pose, but instead surrendering to sensations inside the body during the pose. “If you’re feeling it, you’re doing it!!”


A vegetarian for over 30 years, she is also passionate about cooking up colourful, wholesome, nourishing dishes, and always up for a discussion about the benefits of vegetarianism/veganism for your health, the planet, and of course the animals!

How much will the retreat cost?

180€ to 260€ all inclusive 


180€ per person for 2 nights, shared occupancy (4 people max, 1 bathroom)


200€ per person for 2 nights, shared occupancy (2 people max, private bathroom)


260€ for 2 nights, private room and bathroom


What’s included in the retreat price? 

2 Nights accommodation, 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners, herbal tea and spring water throughout the retreat. 4 Yoga and meditation classes, 2 talks and one Yoga Nidra Class (deep relaxation).  Yoga mats, props and writing material are provided.

What is not included in the price?
Transportation to and from the retreat is not included in the price. 
Any beverages ordered outside of what is offered at meal times or the herbal tea & spring water which is always available. 

What will the food be like? 

Delicious, vegetarian and vegan meals will be prepared using locally sourced, organic ingredients whenever possible. All meals are prepared with little or no gluten and lactose.  Please do inform us if you have an allergies or intolerances. Herbal tea and spring water are provided throughout the weekend.  A selection of other beverages are available at a listed price.


What are the rooms like and will I be able to choose my room?
The house is a traditional Monto Alentejano and each room is different.  We have 3 rooms with a double bed in each and private bathrooms, 1 room with 2 twin beds and private bathroom,  and 1, 2 bedroom suite which has 2 twin beds, 1 double bed  and a shared bathroom. While we would like to keep everyone happy with their first choice of room, to be fair, rooms will be allocated on a first come first serve basis and according to capacity. Please let us know at the time of booking if you would like to book a private or shared room and if you have a room preference at this time. We will always do what we can to satisfy your requests.

What do I need to bring?

Comfortable clothes for Yoga, meditation and relaxation.  We recommend any sports clothes such as sweatshirts, fleese tops, jogging bottoms and leggings, or if the weather is warm, shorts, t-shirts, or tank tops.  Please do bring a warm sweater and/or jacket.  Even though afternoons can be quite warm, evenings and mornings may still be cold.

Practical shoes for country walks.

When does the retreat start and finish?  

You may plan to arrive from 4-8pm Friday (dinner will be served at 8pm). Departure is planned for Sunday at around 5pm, after tea. 
If you wish to extend your retreat, additional nights, yoga and meditation classes and massage are all available at a discounted rate.  Please let us know if you would like to arrive early or stay on after the retreat date for some extra wellness

Can I book massage or Reiki treatments during the retreat?
There is some free-time allocated over the weekend, so you may choose to schedule a treatment with Melissa.  Please see our website for our treatment list.

The schedule is quite full, however, you have the option to attend as much or as little as you like with no questions asked!  Free Time has also been scheduled in, so that you have time to rest, relax and have fun!  The property has 3 small lakes and 64 hectares of land for you to explore by foot or bike. Bikes are available for rent at the retreat centre.  You may also choose to relax by the pool or hang out in our outdoor cafe with a book, your journal or with friends.  Massage and Reiki treatments are also available and may be arranged during your free-time.

Terms & Conditions
The retreat is open to a minimum of 4 people and a maximum of 8 people. 

Rooms will be allocated as bookings and deposits are paid.  

To reserve a place, a 50% deposit is requested by PayPal, bank transfer or MBway. The balance should be paid on or before arrival day either by PayPal, bank transfer, MBway or in euro on arrival. 

This amount is non-refundable.

Should you need to cancel your reservation, your deposit will be returned to you (less bank/service fees) as long as you cancel 7 days or more prior to the retreat date.  The deposit is non-refundable otherwise.

Should we need to cancel the retreat, we will refund your deposit or the total amount you have paid within 7 days of us informing you of cancellation or you may choose to transfer the amount to another retreat date.
